Explore With Me: Portsmouth

Explore With Me: Portsmouth

I think I have done the majority of attractions around Portsmouth, so I am here, as your travel guide when you decide that you want to explore this city! Portsmouth is a historic town, mixed in with some new parts. One of the highlights of this city is that it has a beach, great shopping centres and selection of museums and attractions which makes it the best of both worlds. Anyone can find something to do in the city through the vast amounts of things that are on offer.

Southsea Beach

Southsea beach is a must when travelling to Portsmouth; this pebbly beach is alongside a concrete path, which makes it so easy to walk along for those much-loved coastal walks. Breathe in the salty sea air whilst having an ice cream’ or wander down to the boating lake and park; which is children friendly.

Commercial Road

The place to go when you want to make a dent in your bank account is Commercial Road as there are so many shops to browse around especially in Cascades Shopping Centre; afterwards you can always go for something to eat and enjoy the nightlife on Guildhall Walk, where you can club crawl because there are so many clubs together!

Gunwharf

This is another little shopping centre which is by a harbour looking out over sailing boats and the occasional ferry! Gunwharf is my favourite part of Portsmouth as you can go shopping with the variety of shops available. There are designer shops some of which include Polo Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, Mint Velvet and Joules, after all the shopping you can eat at an endless supply of restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It also holds a cinema and an active nightlife, try TigerTiger for that great night out with your friends.

Isle of Wight

From Portsmouth you can get onto a hovercraft or ferry to the Isle of Wight, this is such a cute island, with a lovely beach and some more attractions to go and see, but I will do another blog post for that. It is definitely easy to get to from Portsmouth as it takes about 10 minutes on the hovercraft. I have had some lovely childhood holidays over there, perfect for the family.

HMS Victory

I love looking at ships especially older ones, this attraction also has some fond childhood memories for me as I went on a school trip here ones because we were studying Lord Nelson. It is great for a family day out and also great for learning about some history as well- if you are interested in that side- unlike me. There is also HMS Warrior if you are a ship lover.

Spinnaker Tower

You can see Portsmouth at new heights when you visit this attraction. The Spinnaker Tower's glass floor adds something a little different as well, maybe not for people who are scared of heights like my mum- but if my mum can do it anyone can!

King Theatre/ New Theatre Royal

These theatres hold musicals, plays and concerts throughout the year and regularly changes so there may need to be a bit of planning to see a show that interests you. These buildings are also very pretty inside with unique features! I recently went to a band playing at the New Theatre Royal, which was a great evening out with my family.

Cafes, Bars and Restaurants

There are so many foodie places around Portsmouth, personally, I love going to Gunwharf Quays to go out for a meal, as this is my favourite part of Portsmouth, it is situated next to the harbour. You can have a lovely meal with an even more amazing view! My favourites that are here include Azzurro, Zizi Café Rouge! There are also lots to choose from around Portsmouth as well as  Gunwharf Quays.
